If you’re seeking relief from the stresses of everyday life, or a way to reconnect with yourself, sound baths offer a unique path towards deep relaxation and comfort.
In the world of wellness, sound baths have become a go-to practice for those wanting to experience deep relaxation and true sound. These immersive sessions include instruments to create sustained, soothing sounds and vibrations to wash away negative emotions, leaving you feeling comforted and reconnected.
During our Empowerment Day, the wonderful ladies who joined us had a trial session with Shirley Stump, a Sound Healing Practitioner and founder of ‘Soundcalm’. They really enjoyed their time and found it beneficial. We believe this practice could truly help many others going through similar journeys. We discussed the main benefits of sound bath therapy with Shirly, and have come up with a list of the top 10 reasons why you should try this practice.

- Reduces stress and anxiety
Sound baths help to release calming hormones and reduce cortisol levels, soothing the nervous system and encouraging a state of calm that eases daily stresses and promotes emotional comfort. After one session, stress and anxiety levels will significantly reduce.
- Promotes physical relaxation, without being touched
Our bodies are mostly made from water, which means sound can easily travel through us, creating space and movement. This helps you relax, release physical tension and soften the body. This is perfect for people who don’t like being physically touched, but still want to see the benefits of a massage.
- Improves sleep quality
A sound bath can prepare your mind and body for deep, restful sleep - a key part of self-care. This is down to your thinking brain enabling you to move into a different state of consciousness between awake and asleep.

- Supports mental clarity and decision making
By quieting mental noise, sound baths can boost focus, helping you feel more clear-headed and confident in daily life.
- Enhance self-connection
The immersive experience encourages a stronger connection to yourself, feeling present in your body fostering self-confidence and inner strength.
- Accessible self-care for all
It is an accessible form of therapy and is suitable for any age and if you’re physically limited as there is no movement during the sessions. There is minimal body contact, and you can remain fully clothed or have further protection with a blanket.

- Helps to process emotions
Sound frequencies can unlock suppressed emotions, offering a safe space for emotional release and comfort.
- Boosts mood and positivity
The meditative state achieved during a sound bath can improve mood, leaving you feeling uplifted and refreshed.
- Reduces physical discomfort
Many report relief from minor aches and pains, making sound baths an ideal practice for post-surgical comfort.
- Creates a sense of empowerment
Feeling balanced and rejuvenated after a session can empower you to face challenges with renewed confidence.

Advisories:
Shirley advises you not to participate if you’re suffering from severe mental health conditions, epilepsy, Meniere’s disease, ear infection, tinnitus, in your first 12 weeks of pregnancy or are fitted with a pacemaker if a lot of drumming is involved. People with cancer are advised to discuss it with a practitioner before booking to check it would be suitable. Weighing up the risks and benefits will be different for each person depending on where they are on their cancer journey.
Sound baths are a simple yet powerful addition to any wellness routine, helping you find moments of peace and self-assurance. If you’re curious to experience the calming effects of a sound bath, consider finding a local practitioner or exploring at-home sessions to begin this journey, you can find many sound bath sessions on YouTube.
Each practitioner might have a slightly different method, it’s important to experiment with different people and different types of sound baths, everyone is different and needs to find the best sound bath for them. For example, Shirley offers a sound journey through various sounds and instruments, a gentle dreamy sound bath to feel nurtured and held. Other sound baths mainly use one instrument like the gong, this will have a different experience and effect which is just as powerful but different.
