Gill - Nicola Jane Inspirational Women Update

When we first launched the 2017 Nicola Jane Catalogue, how did you feel seeing yourself as a Nicola Jane Inspirational Woman?

I was proud of myself (it was actually quite scary) and so were my family and friends. Although I did have a few laughs realising I was offering to show people pictures of me in my underwear, especially so with the guys at the Golf Club (actually the bit about the guys at the Golf Club was a joke, I didn’t do that!). What I think is great about the Nicola Jane Inspirational Woman Idea, is the sense of girl power.

What have you been up to since we last saw you?

As much as I can really. I try not to waste money or time as it is precious, if a person is a ‘mood hoover’ I don’t keep them in my life. My biggest new thing is yoga, it really helps with toning. It also helps me stop, gain perspective and breathe.

At the Nicola Jane Inspirational Women photoshoot you wore the Rosie Padded Lace Bra and Matching Shorts. How did you feel wearing it? How did it suit your surgery?

I felt great, it is so pretty. Before I had kind of given up on having fun buying underwear but the experience with Nicola Jane gave that back to me, so thank you.

After surgery some ladies find it difficult to get back to normality. Do you have any advice or tips that helped you regain your confidence?

To be honest I am more confident now than I have ever been. I think life as a whole teaches you that. One thing I did change because of the surgery and the chemo, was to give myself the time for me. I have spent time working out what suits my shape and lifestyle. I do have to be very careful with necklines, not just because of the mastectomy but the radiotherapy has left me with blemishes. If I go to buy something that I know I would have to keep checking to make sure nothing was showing - I just don’t buy it. I had to get rid of a lot of my clothes, which in some ways was part of the bereavement process. I hope someone else is having a fabulous time wearing some of my favourite dresses! My advice to any woman would be to wear what makes you feel confident and fabulous, dress just in case you will be snapped by the paparazzi and smile!
