Sun, sea, sand and the perfect makeup!
Going on holiday and not sure what makeup essentials to pack? Don't panic! Professional Makeup Artist Lara Rorich, is here to offer her expert advice!
Which makeup items should I take on holiday?
With so many options out there these are some of my favourites…
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Broad Spectrum with SPF 20 will make your skin look flawless after being in the sun all-day. It has a fabulous lightweight coverage that is excellent on all skin types. To find out which shade is right for you, ask to be colour-matched by a professional makeup artist.
Benefit 'Hoola' Bronzer is perfect for achieving that healthy sun-kissed holiday glow. To apply just lightly dust over your face. It is matte in colour with no sparkle or shine.
BECCA Beach Tint is a water-resistant colour for cheeks and lips, the fabulous thing about this product is that it’s a 2-in-1, so it can be used as a lippy and a blusher.
I would also make sure to pack my Kjaer Weis Lip Gloss which is certified organic and comes in the most gorgeous packaging! I love the colour ‘Fascination’ which I’d apply in the evenings over lipstick or a lip tint. It has a lovely raspberry tint with a soft shine and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky and it’s super-moisturising. It can be worn by itself or pair it with a matching lipstick for an opaque finish.
Last but not least make sure you take with you a waterproof mascara… a long-wearing product and perfect if you plan to go swimming! I love It’s a Long Story Mascara by Arbonne (I love the applicator brush), it is lengthening and is formulated to be water-resistant. I also love the High Impact Waterproof Mascara by Clinique.
Summer skin care - moisturiser or suncream?
I would recommend both. It’s really important to protect your skin from the sun, so I would recommend applying sunscreen at least 20 minutes before sun exposure. I love Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration SPF 30, it’s super-hydrating and smells delicious! Another favourite of mine is Piz Buin Allergy Lotion SPF50+ which is great for sun-sensitive skin and offers a much higher protection.
For the evenings after a bath or shower I love the Eléngé Facial & Body Butter, it’s made with only natural ingredients of shea butter, coconut oil, grape seed oil, aloe vera gel and rose hip oil. It has no toxins in the ingredients and is made using sustainable methods - what’s not to love?!
For that gorgeous glittering goddess glow use NUXE Huile Multi-Usage Dry Oil in 'Golden Shimmer' it’s great for keeping your hair & skin nourished. I apply just a small amount to my legs and arms for that extra sparkle. You can also add it to the ends of your hair if it’s feeling a bit dry.
Makeup techniques for hot and humid climates
First I’d apply a primer I love Daniel Sandler’s Silky Skin Pro- Finish Face Primer with SPF 20. Apply your primer after moisturiser as this will help your makeup to stay on throughout the day.
Avoid eye cream as this will only make your eye makeup slip in the heat. You can also use your primer on the eyelid as a base, apply your powder over your primer on your eyelid as this creates a base for the shadow to hold. If you are going to use an eye pencil apply a thin layer of the same colour powder over the eyeliner line, this will help it to stay longer.
Blotting papers will also be a lifesaver to eliminate shine. I love the PALLADIO Rice Paper, they are made from natural rice and are great for absorbing oil. Personally I would steer away from powder blush and use a cream blusher instead. I love the creme blusher by Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for lips and cheeks which comes in seven colours. Chose a peach or pink for a lovely summery look, or if you’re feeling adventurous try a tangerine or grape colour. Lightly dab it onto your lips. You can also use a lipliner pre-application if you need extra definition. I love the Kjaer Weis Lip Pencil in Mauve.
